Cut with Care

Hair is seriously important and a bad cut stays with you for a long time. Girls can not get away from a bad haircut as easily as guys can. If everything goes wrong with a guy they can shave their head and within a month they already look pretty darn normal. If a girl messes up her hair up it hurts.

This is something I know and have had a couple experiences with. After all some bad hair experiences are our own ideas. For instance, I have made two really bad blunders in my life. The first is when I was a toddler. Just try talking a two year old out of a Beetle bowl cut. Let's say I got teased merciless.

Then a couple of years later when I finally let people cut my hair more than a trim the women put stairs in it! Of course this was not my blunder it was her's. Regardless, the cut before my birthday party I was turning like 6-7. Imagine Mom trying to even my hair out in the tub, before everyone gets there. Hmm, this might be where the downward birthday party spiral started but that's another story.

So years go by with just trims and being crazy protective over my hair and I finally get the nerve to do a major cut. Naturally another one being inspired by a musician. At this time I was getting ready to go into 6th grade and decide that I have had enough of my hair. It was long enough to sit on and just always a pain. So when I heard of "Locks for Love" I decided to do it. At this time I am listening to Toni Braxton like crazy, and decided to try her style.

Love Toni, loved the look for the first week or so. Yet then it started to grow out, and I kept cutting it at first, but that got old too. Who wants to get their hair cut every two to three weeks, I sure as heck didn't. Thus the grow out process had to be started and sure did bite. By the start of High School it started to look normal again and even good? Yet a lesson I never forgot.

Unfortunately for me I ran into a hairdresser who, while going to him for two years at the U. Oregon. Seemed to loose his mind for a day? I wanted a simple layer framing cut that would grow out nicely for my study abroad and Euro Trip. Yea a simple haircut when to hell and suddenly I ended a cut to compete with the grow out. Remember those 80's movies? You know the one's with the soccer Mom's and their helmet hair... yea this plus bangs and a mullet. It was traumatic and I am getting ready to go to Europe. DISASTER! I have to go running to another hairdresser who thinks this is the worst cut she has seen in 25 years. Great... HELP!

Suffices to say a haircut is important. I have found a great salon that holds a cutting class on Tuesdays only $20. I go to this girl name Jack and she rocks, this is the second time she has cut my hair and I am in love. All the length none of the weight it it is great! The last cut grew in so nicely and I am looking forward to seeing this one evolve too.

I highly recommend them and her. So here is there info: 3012 Fillmore Street San Francisco, CA 94123-4010 - (415) 674-4444 Open Tue-Fri 10am-8pm; Sat 10am-7pm; Sun 10am-6pm

Flying through the Air

If you remember I mentioned that I wanted to try Flying Trapeze as one of my 100 things to do right? Well as you know, recently found this great group called "Road Trippers" and they are interested. I was asked to take lead, thus I am organizing the event. Here it the info for the event.

Flying High Package Flying trapeze (Circus Skills optional)

"Fly through the air with the greatest of ease"! During your session, you'll be shown how to hang by your knees on a stationary bar then it's right up the ladder to the flying trapeze! You will practice the knee hang position for execution and timing, with the goal at the end of the session to make a mid air connection with our "catcher".

We need 10-12 people $450 for 2 hours / 3 instructors
For an additional $85 you can add a ½ hour to your party and do some trampoline, tightwire, juggling or other circus activity!
Let's add on the extra $85.

Look forward to seeing everyone on Saturday March 6th!

Life is the ultimate video game

I get how easy it is to let the world get you down, specially when in crappy weather and an even worse economy. People start to see things as half full, which is the worst time to allow yourself to get defeated. You get fired, you break up, you have a bad week in school... what ever it is the negative will suck you in. Misery loves company, but your inner self can choose to be happy.

I have one friend who is lost in the past, the what might have happened and what if's. They are drowning in things that they cannot change, my only advice is focus on the future and things you can change. Set goals for yourself and give yourself something to do other than wallow. Find things and people that make you happy and surround yourself with them. Sitting alone inside ones head when it is in a negative mindset does no good. Reach out, find things that will bring the light in.

I know all about wanting to wallow, sob and fall into the negative feelings we all have. Yet I have a choice, I can choose to thing and focus my energy on these thoughts that lead me to a bad place (NOT A REAL CHOICE) or I can choose to focus on things that are positive and make me happy. I am not saying its not good to cry or get frustrated and let it out, it is. Yet at some point you got to reach into yourself and pull out this inner resolve to just push it aside and get on with it.

What do I mean by this, well for me it's focusing on school, tango, my list of things, the gym and friends. I know a couple of friends that have gotten fired and are desperate to find another thing. I wish they would see the opportunities they have, to go back to school and push through it quickly or like on of my friends to move. I hope she see that opportunity for the gold it is, as there is only one life and living it is more important than watching it.

I love to people watch, but I wouldn't want to watch my life pass me by. Don't think I am morbid but if I died tomorrow (probably at the hands of MUNI), did I have a good full life and did I live it? I know many of my friends who love to play video games, which is fine, a good form of relaxation. Yet they will tell me stories of: what they were doing, how they trained and developed their character, how hard they had to work to find X, the crazy places they saw and adventures and things their characters did in the game. These sound like great, fun, life living adventures... accept they are all virtual and my friend in real life has never left the computer. They put more work into the characters quality of living than their own, and isn't life the ultimate video game? I mean yes it is easy to get educated, travel, train and anything you want in a video game than it is in real life well with the exception of Wii Fit maybe.

1. What are the top three most adventurous things you've done?
a. Cut all my hair off to a boy cut in 6th grade
b. Ditch my friends to go to Ankor Wat, Cambodia by myself... story about taxi jumping and a lot of random crazy life moments. Or any of my travels really
c. Let's just say stupid motorcycle moment.

How would you answer those questions?

Missed tango - I am bad

I am bad, I did not do TANGO today! I should I really should have, but I am not feeling well I have had a headache for the whole day. I took a nap tried to get rid of it but I could not. I have gotten a lot done today but I have not danced this week. I will try to find a class or something to make it up or twice next week. I am not flaking just felt ill.

Buying Burning Man Tickets

I am waiting in line for Burning Man tickets... when I started it was 7,000 + people ahead of me. There are currently under 2,700 people ahead of me. Wow! And I was here ready to buy at 10:02 opps a bit late. DAMN!

In case you do not know of Burning Man, which is a bit hard to do but hey not everyone knows. This is a temporary gifting community where there is no money and I doubt you are the weirdest kid. People bring art installations to create mobiles all in the middle of a desert. The conditions are harsh this is something I am worried about but I am just so excited. The giving open atmosphere, being in a community of art and music!

The best way to get an idea of it is through some videos thus...

As I get ready to finish the post and yes getting a bit lost in the amazing videos. I am now 1,927 in line. I am excited!

Messy Girl Club - I painted!

The Messy Girl club was inspirational.. I met some amazing girls and got to enjoy all sorts of topics. We all had different backgrounds and similar interests. I came to do scrap-booking and ended up creating a painting. Well two maybe the other might be turned into a light box. It was odd but by painting the metal black I created a cool design on the "tarp". That will be the next time to finish I believe, this is what I did this time. I am so thankful to Allison for opening up her space, her supplies and letting everyone dig in. Plus helping me with drilling, which I have done before but quite rarely. This is an inspirational group and the event/meet up was: http://www.meetup.com/The-Messy-Girl-Club-Alison-Leigh-Siegel-MFT/calendar/12039651/

First Flash Mob: No Pants BART

Today was great and really truly amazing and fun to do. Waiting for the BART pantless, with my rainbow knee high sock and reading a book while people take pics was funny. Great to listen to the, "I heard rumors of it but didn't think I would run it to it." or "cute, Kisses" (my underwear said that with a set of lips, thank you Lexi) The undies match the top and I have a huge bag and backpack that I am lugging. Not paying anyone any mind as I got on 24th and Mission and off at Powell. To get an idea of what this is like check out the Civic Center YouTube video below.

Being part of a Flash Mob was great and watching peoples reactions, reading it on the news is funny. From that it's indecent (HA nudity is legal in SF, but pantless is indecent!) to wow SF a taste of Europe. Still searching for info about this event but happy to have participated. Crossing off Flash Mob, plus the one I am working on Frozen SF is growing by leaps and bounds have to practice being still for 5 mins and the cha cha slide on Feb 6th.

Dancing Vids that make you smile

Wish the vids would show

Anyone can start a dance party, do not let what others might think of you stop you from being the one.

A great idea that makes me smile and so noted, I will probably do this myself.

She is so adorable! Totally has the steps, the beat and it all down!

Great marketing campaign, would have jumped in myself! Oh wait I will for the Cha Cha Slide.

Stretching Shoes

Shoes hurt and often a girls weakness. I am lucky as they are not always mine I learned early on shoes that are pretty but cannot be worn are worthless. Yet they don't fit, or make ones that are comfortable and often they have to be broken in and this can be well a forever process.

With the shoes that I wore last time, I needed to stretch them out a bit. I saw this really great YouTube video! I decided to try it and guess what, it works. They are a lot more comfortable, but I might repeat the process. Check it out, once you hear how it's done you will wonder why you didn't think of it yourself.

Try it! It works and loving the idea see:

Survive an Earthquake- Do you know?

Since we had two, I wonder how many of you know how to really survive? Cause what we were taught at school duck and cover under a table is WRONG. Please take the time to read this.

How to survive an Earthquake - Tips from Doug Copp:

1) Everyone who simply "ducks and covers" WHEN BUILDINGS COLLAPSE is crushed to death–Every time, without exception. People who get under objects, like desks or cars, are always crush.

2) Cats, dogs and babies all naturally often curl up in the fetal position. You should too in an earthquake. It is a natural safety/survival instinct. You can survive in a smaller void. Get next to an object, next to a sofa, next to a large bulky object that will compress slightly but leave a void next to it.

3) Wooden buildings are the safest type of construction to be in during an earthquake. The reason is simple: the wood is flexible and moves with the force of the earthquake. If the wooden building does collapse, large survival voids are created. Also, the wooden building has less concentrated, crushing weight. Brick buildings will break into individual bricks. Bricks will cause many injuries but less squashed bodies than concrete slabs.

4) If you are in bed during the night and an earthquake occurs, simply roll off the bed. A safe void will exist around the bed.

5) If an earthquake happens while you are watching television and you cannot easily escape by getting out the door or window, then lie down and curl up in the fetal position next to a sofa, or large chair.

6) Everybody who gets under a doorway when buildings collapse is killed. How? If you stand under a doorway and the door jam falls forward or backward you will be crushed by the ceiling above. If the door jam falls sideways you will be cut in half by the doorway. In either case, you will be killed!

7) Never go to the stairs. The stairs have a different "moment of frequency" (they swing separately from the main part of the building). The stairs and remainder of the building continuously bump into each other until structural failure of the stairs takes place. The people who get on stairs before they fail are chopped up by the stair treads - horribly mutilated. Even if the building doesn't collapse, stay away from the stairs. The stairs are a likely part of the building to be damaged. Even if the stairs are not collapsed by the earthquake, they may collapse later when overloaded by fleeing people. They should always be checked for safety, even when the rest of the building is not damaged.

8) Get Near the Outer Walls Of Buildings Or Outside Of Them If Possible. It is much better to be near the outside of the building rather than the interior. The farther inside you are from the outside perimeter of the building the greater the probability that your escape route will be blocked.

9) People inside of their vehicles are crushed when the road above falls in an earthquake and crushes their vehicles; which is exactly what happened with the slabs between the decks of the Nimitz Freeway. The victims of the San Francisco earthquake all stayed inside of their vehicles. They were all killed. They could have easily survived by getting out and sitting or lying next to their vehicles, says the author. Everyone killed would have survived if they had been able to get out of their cars and sit or lie next to them. All the crushed cars had voids 3 feet high next to them, except for the cars that had columns fall directly across them.

10) I discovered, while crawling inside of collapsed newspaper offices and other offices with a lot of paper, that paper does not compact. Large voids are found surrounding stacks of paper.

Think forward not backward or negative... hate heartbreak

It is easy to let the negative suck you in, to want to only remember the bad and drown in it. I know this because my heart is broken and if I talk, see or anything of him I turn into a mess and bundle of tears. Then my mind starts thinking, which is one of my biggest problems I think I think to much. I know it is an issue with dancing I think ahead.
I am trying to just live in the moment and obviously not think about him or the past. You can't change the past just the future. So I gotta focus on tomorrow. I am packing my bag for the scrap-booking tomorrow and pick out panties for the pant-less BART ride. Wow is that a weird sentence to write. Almost tempted to put pictures up but you just have to be on the BART for that! Plus with the stupid what color your bra is and all that already going on, I think the net has enough info on it that this can be a secret.

I have to focus on tomorrow and things I want to get done. Not wallow in the pain of heartbreak, something you will never understand and will always be a wound. This is one, that time will lessen but I doubt will totally heal.

My Flash Mob

Wow I am excited, I wanted to join in a flash mob and found one for this weekend. Another two I guess if the Valentine's day pillow fight counts, and the cha cha slide. I never imagined that the one I would plan and organize, Frozen SF would get such a big interest. It already has over 180 people who are interested in coming to this! He he! So far this is the info on the event:

Frozen in San Francisco.
Where: Powell BART Station, this includes the plaza and cable turn around.
Date: March 4st, 2010
Time: 5pm
Objective: Stay frozen for 3 mins

This will give us time to spread the word and gather interest.

We chose Powell BART because it was on the way to Union Square and a huge tourist stop as well as for natives We can be in the Bart station and plaza and even around the cable turns if we have enough people.

The info might change a bit, but if it does it will be a bit later and a longer freeze probably! We picked Thursday for a more tourist and native day and same thing with the rush hour.

JOIN ME! http://www.facebook.com/event.php?eid=232249449636&ref=share
Over 300 people are going to try to come.

Tango at Cellspace

I suck! I was running late. Ok I was good and I went to the gym and got a 45 min work out in. So that's good, but once home and having to have a quick bite, shower and then catch the bus... with the new Muni changes. HA! This is a whole other issue, which is quite BS. The prices go up but Muni takes away services and frequency. I am sorry but it should not be a 28 min wait for the 22 Filmore line, specially at 7pm. Like really.

Obviously Murphy's Law was not loving me in the early evening but I got there just 15 mins late. It was a bit hard to catch up, since the intermediate class is really kinda advance but the beginner is way to newbie for me. So I am a lil stuck with the fact that I don't quite follow the class specially when coming in a bit late.

I am realizing some of my issues with tango is that I anticipate instead of being lead. I really just need to let go and let the moves come naturally. Sometimes the footwork does not come, I am not sure what they are trying to lead or what ever. This time my shoes were a bit better, they were a lot lower and more comfy in the toes. Sadly they were swing backs and the heels kept slipping. Again I realize that shoe shopping is needed, wonder how much it would cost to have a pair made for me. I will go more into shoes and fix its it a tip later.

Cellspace tonight!

Wow! I am getting ready to go to Cellspace tonight, I have to leave at like 730 ish to get there in time. This is the first Meetup event I am doing, I am excited and a bit nervous but this is for sure going to keep me on track. Gotta print the sign!

I swear the list of things to do just get's longer. I am all proud of myself for being done with the awful sewing pile and yet I just see more and more projects. It's ok, one project one HW assignment at the time right? Take a break for things that must be done healthy wise. I was reminded on FB by a friend who did a major work out that I need to go to the gym and keep it in the mix. I don't go and it's so wrong. So I am changing and will be there from 5-6. Talk you everyone after Cellspace.

New Assistant Organizer of Dance San Francisco's Meetup.com

OMG! So excited, I got asked by the organizer of Dance San Francisco to become an Assistant Organizer of their Meetup. Vikas the organizer liked my suggestion of the Wednesday tango, and said I could arrange it. Thus I will! I already posted a meet up for this Wednesday and one for next. This will help keep me on my tango goal. I am so excited to be doing this. Here is the link, come join us: http://www.meetup.com/DanceSanFrancisco/calendar/12221281/

Meetup.com info pasted below:

At 8:10pm to 9:05pm beginner & intermediate classes taught concurrently! From 9:05pm to 12:00am a Milonga. There is a door Fee: $10 for both the class and milonga or $5 for the milonga only.

This is a great deal for an hour lesson and three hours of practice with a table of snacks and water provided, great as you get hungry and want to talk and mingle. Everything here is volunteered and part of the Project Tango which is a Non profit... over time I might also try to pitch in and bring food. More info below.

The Cellspace alternative Milonga is an effort to balance out the wonderful classic tango events throughout SF and the Bay Area with a progressive community endeavor. This is a Project Tango non-profit community effort (started July 9th, 2003). Checkout the CELLspace DJ page for more info on alternative dj'ing & music! We are developing a pool of alternative DJ's. From time to time we also put on special theme nights and have performances of various art forms (not just tango)!

CPR Certification Research

As you might remember on my list of things to do is get my CPR certification. It is something I feel that everyone should know, after all anyone can choak and need help. Who in your family could perform it at a dinner party if the case called for it? I know that no one in my is trained nor certified. They would go with what they know and pray that they are faking it right. Do you really want them to be faking it? I know I don't. Hence I started to research where I would go. I found two good options, but I think I might go for the more expensive and extensive one. What would you choose, option 1 or 2?

Option 1:
CPR for Community Initial or Renewal (3 hours) $50
(Adult, Child, Infant CPR & AED) Two year certification card.
Class Length: 3 hours
Class Location: 598 Vermont Street, San Francisco

Bus lines: 22, 19, 53

http://www.safetytrainingseminars.com/scheduleforclass3.php?CombineCourses=2&CombineCourses=9

Option 2:
Adult, Infant and Child CPR/AED Cost: $65.00 | Length: 6 Hours 30 Minutes |

Dance is in all of us

Bajofondo - Pa' Bailar
This is an amazing group who mixes techno, rock, rap, ska.. you name it to a tango beat. Yes you heard me a TANGO beat. This video is great and so much fun watching him dance and break it all down all around the train. I would love to see this in person.

Eddie Ueahara - Dance to Express, not to Impress

While this is not tango, it does have the tango undertone of moving how the music tells you to and not being afraid of anyone else opinion.

This was sent to me by a family friend written by their in-law. Some really god advice.
